Busia County Chief Officer for Health and Sanitation Dr. Isaac Omeri has assured residents of Busia County that all health institutions in the country will receive drugs starting Monday, August 13th, 2018.

Responding to complaints from residents that most hospitals have run out of drugs, Dr. Omeri said Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) will start supplying drugs after all.
The CO said drugs to County hospitals are supplied according to duration and their budgets.

“Adequate drugs were supplied last in April and have since been used for intended purpose.
The delay to supply more drugs followed procurement processes which have now been completed,’’ he said, adding that there should be no cause for alarm over the current stock-outs in some hospitals.

Dr. Omeri said the population of Busia County currently stands at 900,000, thus drugs usage in the health institutions is very high.

‘’ The Department was allocated Sh143milion to restock the drugs.”

‘’ Although the amount is small we shall ensure that drugs that KEMSA will supply are used prudently. We are mooting out plans to introduce ICT system of monitoring the usage of drugs in hospitals to avoid pilferage. The recent transfer of health personnel was also geared towards bringing sanity in service delivery,’’ he said.
